The challenge This is a 4 day shoot in Courtmacsherry West Cork involving multiple locations including several action scenes set at sea.
The team The Blow-Ins will be directed by the highly creative CJ Scuffins (www.prodigalson.ie). The film will be shot on the RED by DOP Ian Murphy from AV3 productions. Most recently the highly talented IFTA nominated makeup artist Gill Brennan and props master Simon Edwards have come on board our ambitious project.
Film Story & Theme The story concerns a Dublin woman, Lorraine, who moves to West Cork to start a new life with her young daughter, having been inspired by her late father’s stories of derring-do on the high seas. When Lorraine discovers that her father's tales were pure fantasy, and that the family name is little more than a joke in their new home town, she vows to join the local sea rescue service, despite having no sea legs herself. Thematically, the story explores reputation. If your family name was besmirched, how far would you go to redeem it? Would you prepare to die for it? Lorraine, driven by the demons in her past, is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. At the story's climax, we entwine an act of sea rescue bravery from Lorraine with the arrival in West Cork of the Kilbrittain Whale (the ultimate West Cork “blow-in”).
