Press Release

The Galway Film Fleadh Pitching Award - Get Your Entries in now!

The 23rd Galway Film Fleadh will take place from Tuesday 5th July to Sunday 10th July. Essentially a story pitching competition, the Pitching Awards is a live event where five short-listed applicants pitch their idea for a film to a panel of industry experts. The winner receives €3,000 to enable him/her to further develop their script and enhance their filmmaking skills.

The application process is simple: Applicants submit a 500-word story idea for screen which are then read by an designated industry panel.(All copies must be submitted blind i.e. your name must not appear on the story page). The best five are shortlisted and invited to present their pitch to a panel of judges. This will take place in front of an audience on Sunday 10th July at the Galway Film Fleadh.

For those selected, it is a golden opportunity: to communicate their story; to bolster their confidence and to provide the first opportunity to win the crowd. As for the winner, the prize can allow them the time to develop and expand their pitch into a full feature film script, as was the case with Will Collins and My Brothers which was the opening film of the 2010 Galway Film Fleadh.

So who knows, maybe in three years' time your film could be opening the Galway Film Fleadh! So get writing!!!

Last year's winner Len Collin who is now using his award to develop his film has said of his win "I've won awards before, but none to date have meant as much to me as the 2010 Galway Film Fleadh Pitching Award."

The deadline for submissions is Friday 10th June and entry forms are available from: www.galwayfilmfleadh.com. Entries can be sent to the The Pitching Award, Galway Film Fleadh, 36D Merchants Dock, Merchants Road, Galway.  The full Galway Film Fleadh programme will announced in mid June.
