As part of the ‘Focus on Screen Dance’ taking place on 13 and 14 July during Kinsale Arts Week 2010, Peter Anderson - film-director, video artist and leading artist in British Screen Dance – will be leading a day long workshop for film-makers and dancers. The focus of the workshop will be on how to realise and create a dance film. It will explore the art of cross-discipline collaboration and will offer an insight into the choreographic relationship between movement and the screen. The workshop is free of charge but due to a very limited number of places (12) interested participants must apply by c.v.

Please apply by sending your C.V. and a short 100 word statement on why you wish to participate in the workshop by Friday 2nd July. Successful applicants will be informed by Wednesday 7th July. Please send applications to michellecarew@kinsaleartsweek.com

For a chance to experience some truly breathtaking films, the Focus on Screen Dance, is for anyone who loves film or dance or is simply chasing the indefinable moment of magic that great art can deliver.

As a taster of what screen dance has to offer, Forward Motion is an exceptional introduction. It is a collection of outstanding British screen dance films, accompanied by interviews with artists to contextualise their work. This programme includes Touched by Wendy Houston and David Hinton.

RTÉ Dance on the Box provides an opportunity for film and dance artists in Ireland to collaborate.
This programme of four films includes, Deep End Dance by David Bolger and Conor Horgan.

Forward Motion: Artist's Choice, 14 July, 9pm
High profile dance makers introduce a film that has inspired their practice. Includes Akram Khan introducing Lloyd Newson’s multi-award winning The Cost of Living and Russell Maliphant choosing Chris Cunningham’s video for Portishead’s Only You.

Screen Dance Panel Discussion, 13 July, 6pm

In this discussion our panel of screen dance experts explore the unique art form of screen dance. Through discussion of the films showcased in Forward Motion, they will focus on the history and nature of British screen dance and its potential influence on the burgeoning Irish movement that is being developed through initiatives such as RTE Dance on the Box.

Panel includes Davide Terlingo (Head of Dance at the Arts Council), David Bolger (Artistic Director, CoisCeim Dance), Peter Anderson and Vicky Bloor (Head of Screen Dance at South East Dance)
