'Postcards From the Celtic Tiger' in Shanghai
'Postcards From The Celtic Tiger' is an exhibition of contemporary Irish photography, video and sound art at the Xuhui Arts Museum, Shanghai, presented by Sirius Arts Centre and Cork Film Centre.
This exhibition, curated by Peggy Sue Amison and Chris Hurley, runs between July 21st and 31st.
Postcards from the Celtic Tiger confronts the radical contrasts resulting from massive shifts caused by the economic boom and recent downturn, presenting a collective vision of contemporary Ireland through visual art.
Using photography, video and sound to challenge stereotypical metaphors relating to Irish landscape, or employing collage and digital imagery to respond to recent changes, the artworks range from the satirical to a subtle, visual poetry.
Also included are pieces utilizing strong documentary practices and
found footage reflecting current events and trends in Irish society,
from the Peace Process to youth culture.

The city of Shanghai is twinned with Cork, and Xuhui, a district within Shnaghai, is twinned with Cobh which is home of Sirius Arts Centre. 'Postcards From the Celtic Tiger' is an event linked to Expo 2010.
