'From the Sources' (Glucksman) & 'Futures 10' (RHA)

A reminder that two major exhibitions close on Sunday 24th October

Closing on 24th October is the FUTURES 10 Exhibition at the RHA, Ely Place, Dublin 2.

The artists in Futures 2010 are selected from a number of sources - from various artist-led initiatives and independent group shows, to a developing peer consensus that attempts an objective view of different artistic practices that have emerged in recent years.

The artists chosen for Futures 10 are Oisin Byrne, Rhona Byrne, Fiona Chambers, Niall de Buitléar, Damien Flood, Magnhild Opdol and Ailbhe Ni Bhriain.

Also closing on 24th October is FROM THE SOURCES - a sound art installation at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery by Mel Mercier to commemorate the Aloys Fleischmann centenary.

Cork Film Centre have worked in partnership with the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, UCC School of Music, UCC, and Sulán Studios in creating this ambitious project. This year, Ireland celebrates the centenary of the birth of Aloys Fleischmann. Based on Fleischmann's Sources of Irish Traditional Music, Mel Mercier's installation From the Sources features filmed performances by almost 100 traditional musicians- all UCC graduates, teachers and students- of the first 986 dance tunes and airs contained in Fleischmann's monumental work.

Some 20 hours of footage, capturing almost 1000 performances, has been edited for six simultaneous projections in the Glucksman's upper gallery to create a John Cage-like audio-visual installation.

Curator: Matt Packer, Video Director: Chris Hurley, Music Advisor: Matt Cranitch, Music Producer: Mary Hickson, Sound Engineer: Tadgh Kelleher

The exhibition will close with a  performance by MÍCHEÁL Ó'SÚILLEABHÁIN & FROM THE SOURCES MUSICIANS at 3pm on Sunday 24th October.
From The Sources musicians directed by Mel Mercier will perform the first revival of Mícheál O Súilleabháin's innovative composition: EGLEGO for Traditional Musicians and Tape.
