Maximilian Le Cain – Daughter of the Sun

The Lili Gallery, Bank Place, Castletownbere, Co.Cork
Saturday April 30th –  Saturday May 14th
Gallery Opening Hours: Mon-Sat 10am-5pm

Daughter of the Sun is an experimental film by Maximilian Le Cain based on the legend of the Cailleach Beara or Hag of Beara. It takes a personal, formally intense approach to themes of identity and cyclical time. It is Le Cain’s most direct engagement with the landscape and mythology of Beara, where he grew up and made his first films. The various aspects of the Cailleach are embodied by Aisling O Connell and the visceral soundtrack is the work of Sarah Ellen Lundy.

Maximilian Le Cain has created a prolific and acclaimed body of moving image work including features, shorts, installations and film-related performances. He is affiliated with Experimental Film Society (EFS), a Dublin-based company that produces and promotes the work of a group of international artists and filmmakers who are linked by a dedication to personal experimental cinema. maximilianlecain.com
