Skibereen course

GUERILLA FILMMAKING, SCREENWRITING, I CAN ANIMATE and PRODUCING SHORTS & TV DOCUMENTARIES:

SCREENWRITING (tutor Felim McDermott):
The course will examine the current theories of script gurus such as Robert McKee, Syd Fields, and Christopher Voegler, and the working methodology of some of the world's leading screenwriters (Schrader, Towne, Piesiewicz, D'Amico, Zaillian) will be examined.
The group will become involved in a detailed analysis of a contemporary film, in which they will be able to identify plot points, foreshadowing, plants/payoffs, scenes as story events, subtext within dialogue, rising action, conclusion, and act & sequence structures. At the end of the first day, participants will be given an assignment to write a two-page scene for the following day.
On the second day, participants must be prepared to think on their feet and write fast. The exercises will specifically focus the writers' attention to economic writing, writing dialogue, and dramatic meaning.
The closing afternoon session will offer participants a perspective on the national and international marketplace for young writers - what opportunities are available and suggestions on what direction their careers could take.
10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sat 23rd & Sun 24th Feb. Fee: €120 or €100 if paid in full in advance.
